My skills- Mal blackshaw
This is a list of design and web Development tools I've been using over the last 10 Years as a web Developer... Please Note Microsoft Frontpage isn't in here as it's the worst ever web design tool EVER... Although this now need updating to include Zend Studio, Zend_Tool, Zend Server and Zend FrameWork, below are the tools of my trade untill I get time to update :-)
I've been using Adobe Dreamweaver since the beginning of time, well at least since Macromedia brought out Dreamweaver 4!
As A grand Master of Dreamweaver as such, I develop all my web applications with Dreamweaver using PHP, MYSQL, XHTML 1.1, and CSS which are in turn are cross browser compatible, to W3C standards and are built with accessibility in mind. With the introduction of AJAX, I also make good use of Adobe's Spry Framework, to build scalable RIAs. As Dreamweaver has evolved so have I and with SVN capabilities now in Dreamweaver I opt use Subversion Control on all projects.
I've been using Photoshop since Version 5 and kind of grow to love it as my main design tool, I design everything with Photoshop, from Web sites - to Tradeshop banners the biggest to date was around 6m x 12m. as with Dreamweaver I've seen this evolve in to one of the best design tools around, Although I'm not a master of Photoshop I still feel I can get the best out of my graphic design talents using this and with Advancement of what Adobe have to offer I will be using it for time to come.
Adobe Illustrator was kind of forced on me after the dimise of Freehand, although I'm more comfortable using Freehand, I still can find my way around Illustrator and I now have to use it to get the best out of Adobe suite.
Adobe Flash well to me it's animation, which takes tooooooooooooo long. I can use it to do simple animation but not to do complex Action Scripts, As a cop out I tent to revert to SwishMax which in it's self is a very good animation tool and support Action Scripts
I've been using XAMPP for a while now for my secure Localhost setup for PHP, Apache, MySQL on windows XP and and after installing Linux UBUNTU I now have it installed for a true LAMP environment. I've taken this further than just a standard installation, as i make use of Mod Rewrites, Subversion, vhost, SSL testing to name a few.
I've recently been introduced to this after moving towards MVC (Model Veiw Controller) way of building website, and Subversion has given me a lot of control over code changes, and abilty release manage my code releases & updates more easier, from Development - Test - QA - Live this is now possible with Dreamweaver been able to handle Version Control using Subweaver Extension. I know have Subversion REpo's setup on my XP & UBUNTU boxes
Again I've been introduced to this software for Version control over my source code and projects I manage. All I can say is MVC / OPP way of programming along with Version control is the best thing since sliced bread :-)
Unfortunatly I've disabled my contact form for a short while - if you need to contact me it's hello (at) malblackshaw.com
